Who we are

Ceòlmhor is an Edinburgh-based bagpipe tuition and performance business. The data controller for all personal data processed in connection with Ceòlmhor's services is the operator of this business. For all data-related enquiries, contact contact@ceolmhor.scot.

What data we collect

Ceòlmhor collects only the personal data necessary to deliver its services. This may include:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • For junior students: the name and contact details of a parent or guardian
  • Event details submitted via the enquiry form (date, type, location)

No sensitive personal data is collected unless required by a specific safeguarding obligation, in which case it is collected only with explicit consent and handled accordingly.

Why we collect it

Personal data is collected and processed for the following purposes:

  • Responding to enquiries and administering bookings
  • Delivering tuition and maintaining lesson records
  • Issuing invoices and processing payments
  • Communicating about lessons or event bookings
  • Complying with safeguarding obligations where applicable

The lawful basis for processing is legitimate interest and, where applicable, contractual necessity. Consent is obtained separately for any optional communications such as a mailing list.

How long we keep it

Personal data is retained only for as long as necessary:

  • Tuition records: 2 years after a student's last lesson
  • Event enquiry and booking data: 90 days after the event, unless the individual has opted into a mailing list
  • Financial records: 6 years, in accordance with HMRC requirements

After the applicable retention period, data is securely deleted. Paper records are shredded; digital records are permanently erased.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data Ceòlmhor holds about you. You also have the right to restrict processing, to object to processing, and to data portability where technically feasible.

To exercise any of these rights, contact contact@ceolmhor.scot. All requests will be responded to within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with how your request is handled, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Data sharing

Ceòlmhor does not sell, share, or transfer personal data to third parties, except where:

  • Required by law or a regulatory authority
  • Necessary to process payment (Stripe), operating under an appropriate data processing agreement
  • Necessary to deliver communications via an email provider operating under appropriate data processing agreements

No personal data is transferred outside the UK or EEA without adequate safeguards in place.

Consent for junior students

For students under the age of 18, written consent from a parent or guardian is required before the first lesson. This consent covers:

  • The collection and processing of the student's personal data as described in this notice
  • Any lesson recording policy in operation at the time
  • The communication channels to be used between Ceòlmhor and the parent or guardian

Consent may be withdrawn at any time by contacting contact@ceolmhor.scot. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing prior to withdrawal.

Cookies and website data

This website does not use tracking cookies or analytics scripts. The contact form is processed by Netlify, which may log submission metadata in accordance with their own privacy policy. No third-party advertising or profiling scripts are present on any page of this site.
